The Positive Power Kids™ Program is available in three separate, age-appropriate programs. Included in each is a Teacher Guide, a Parent Guide and a Facilitator Guide that all describe positive ways of motivating and working with children with ADD or ADHD traits. All of these guides are made to be reproduced and distributed to teachers and parents year after year.
- The Teacher Guide contains helpful information on how teachers can best help these children from classroom set-up to assigning homework.
- The Parent Guide contains important information on home management, treatment options, and tips on how parents can motivate and sustain the child through positive parenting.
- The Facilitator Guide comes complete with the general information and instructions on how to facilitate the entire program, from engaging the child, teachers and parents to running the Positive Power Kids™ groups.
These groups are generally made up of between 3 and 5 kids selected by the team to participate in a 6-10 week group counseling experience where they will learn all about their marvelous strengths and learn to deal with their weaknesses in a safe, nurturing environment. These kids really need a place where they can safely learn from their mistakes.
Held only one class period a week, this program has been shown to be significantly helpful in strengthening children's positive self concepts, improving classroom behaviors and reducing referrals to the office. The facilitator is usually a school counselor, social worker or psychologist and may have 3 or 4 groups going during any one week.
The Positive Power Kids™ Programs come with a reproducible game board that the kids color and laminate on the first session. They make their own game-playing pieces out of colored clay and so already they are kinesthetically involved and developing "ownership" in the process. This is a game where all of the kids win or lose points together through a series of individual and group interventions that are all a fun and engaging. The game is designed to teach the kids about their many assets, to inspire them, encourage them and help them feel that they indeed do belong. Through the game and the facilitator's therapeutic interventions, the children are actually able to experience first hand what others experience with them and they are able then to practice ways of overcoming some of their weaknesses such as inattention, impulsivity, and interrupting others. They learn to value and build on their strengths such as creativity, passion and industry.
Playing the game week after week, the facilitator gleans important information about each child that may later be helpful for the individual. The guides help parents and teachers work together with the facilitator and with each other for cohesiveness and strength.
The Positive Power Kids™ Programs are available in three separate grade groups; K-3, 4rd-7th and 8th-12th. Call for more information or use the purchase order form to order. Dr. Adams also provides staff trainings if you are interested.
